Matthew 20:25 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. 26 But it shall not be so among you: but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; 27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: 28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for man.
We have a different kingdom as a citizen of heaven and we are meant to follow and learn the precept of our kingdom. The understanding of how your kingdom operates is what will determine your achievement because it is to you according to the level of your understanding. The leadership and mentorship operation in this kingdom is quite different from the world's kind of leadership and mentorship. Without understanding and practice of kingdom mentorship we may not be able to do the work of reconciliation given to us by God effectively(2 Corinthians 5:18-19). Without a servanthood mentality one will not be a successful mentor in this kingdom and the glorification title will not be in view. We all are called to be a mentor and to follow the leading and teaching of Jesus Christ and to pass the same knowledge to others. In this kingdom where we belong Jesus Christ is our leader and every other person is to take the mentality of a servant and a mentorship position. That means you are not going to Lord it over anyone. Philippians 2:5 (Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men): Your genuineness and passion as a mentor will automatically make people view you as a leader. Jesus Christ even though he is our leader saw himself as a servant; seeing yourself as a leader is a trap of the devil. He wants you to exalt yourself above others that you are meant to coach; and as soon as you occupy that position you will no longer be an effective coach. That you took a place of servant does make you less of who God has made you; it is God who advances men and not humans (1 Samuel 12:6, Philippians 2:8-10). We are here to pass down the knowledge that we have acquired in our walk with Jesus to the next generation just as ourselves has received from others. That is what Christian mentorship is all about, expanding the kingdom of God. We are to be an example for others to follow our footstep (Isaiah 51:2, Hebrews 12:2). Your authority as a mentor is not to Lord it over your mentee, no. in this kingdom the authority given to you is to use against the enemy of your mentorship job; those things that want to distract you and your mentee from achieving the set goal by God. The irony of this great call is that you can mentor someone only if you have something to show; your proof of success is what will attract people to you because you cannot give what you don´t have. Your ability to inspire others to follow you is what makes you a leader and a mentor; mentorship is not by age, it is your willingness and ability to teach, to guide, to counsel and to pass on your experience to others. Jesus Christ is an example of how a mentorship relationship should look (Philipians 2:8); he is the only mentor that died for his mentee. Jeremiah 3:15 (And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding). Spiritual mentors are chosen by God because he knows that you cannot work with everybody; God pairs you with someone that you can work with and has what you need. You are to choose your mentor prayerfully so that you will not fall into any pitfall in this journey. Mentorship relationship requires mutual understanding between the mentor and the mentee. Jesus Christ is our mentor, that is why he said whosoever receives and believes in his name, he will give them power to become a child of God (John 1:12). Which means you need to receive him and also believe his word and result and then the mentorship relationship is formed. To be a successful mentor you need to possess the same quality that manifested in the life of Jesus. In our next segment we are going to focus on the qualities that make Jesus a successful mentor; please don't ́t miss following the series. You will not fail in your call in Jesus name. Friends, in case you are wondering how you can enter into this relationship with Christ; I have good news for you. Quickly pray this salvation prayer below and begin your journey with him.
Lord Jesus, I come to you today, I am a sinner, and I cannot help myself, forgive me my sins, and cleanse me with your precious blood. Deliver me from sin and Satan to serve the living God. Lord Jesus, I accept you as my Lord and saviour. Now I know I am Born Again, Amen.
